An Investigation of UArts Student Registration

June 06, 2010 by agrossman

For part of the summer 2010 internship I have been tasked with an interesting research topic: how does student registration really work at the University? When students review, select and register for their semester's courses, they necessarily navigate a hodge-podge of paper forms, disparate websites and meet with staff and faculty members to ensure their selections are properly processed. As such, it's not uncommon to hear complaints about the process from students and faculty alike. But MID is up to the challenge! This project will examine how paper forms guide the student registration process; how these forms compliment or confuse the online process; which staff and faculty need to be involved in the student's process and how it can all be streamlined. What will this mean for deadlines? How might the visual language change? Will online forms change? This is the perfect venue for design intervention with aggressively iterative testing and constant feedback - stay tuned for updates!
