Charrette's Over!
This year's Charrette is over. It was intense. Not as intense as I had been lead to believe but still pretty good. The topic was Virtues at Work, and the idea was to choose a virtue/value and pair it with an ancient element. For the element we were provided four to choose from, Air, Fire, Earth and Water. The virtue/value half of the topic was a bit more open. It wasn't limited to just one of the classics or even those of Christianity, but could seemingly be any positive ideal one strives for. Humility, balance and humor are an example of some of the ones chosen.
The assignment was to physically make something, as well as provide an intervention and have 2 11x17" posters to present with. Within teams of around ten people we were given three days to decide, research, develop and implement our ideas. Part of the lack of intensity was due to the positive nature of the topic, but I'd say mostly it was due to the fact that those three days were broken up with yoga sessions and meditations.
With such an open topic you can imagine the range of results that were produced. Some of the projects included were a production of people painting bubble mix over subway vents to lift peoples spirits, an off kilter see-saw to promote balance, and an empty doorway labeled "Good Day Door" to help people choose to have a good day.
