Masters of Industrial Design

As the group felt a lack of mindfulness amongst their design community, they chose fire as their element to inspire and spread mindfulness. Their deliverable took two forms, a hearth, the flame and stand, with embers, the lumens.

The lumen are physical offerings that are meant to be carried away. They will serve as gentle reminders during daily life and can be worn or simply carried in the pocket. Each lumen is inscribed with virtues, which will remind people to be mindful.

The interactive sculpture encourages a gathering and allows the free exchange of lumens. This exchange symbolizes the “spreading” of fire and new beginnings. This sculpture embodies the spirit of fire. It aims to evoke contemplation and to stimulate one’s inner fire.
